The First Show N Tell

We held the first Show N Tell on Friday night at Mark’s apartment. Everyone had a great time and I’m certain there will be more events planned soon.

    I am currently blogless and submitting the three poems I read in comments. Here is the last poem I read at the first Show N Tell, titled “Asteroid”:

    One breath of time in the clear of autumn night air, while lovers entwine and the lonely despair, showers of starfish sent from the sky will destroy every madness, sorrow, and care and splinter the cities and egos that stand.

    Each voice, each joy, each soft child’s hand will be dust. All of us. All the same. No feeling. No more pain.

    And the demons will laugh, and the monsters will roar, when the mountains collapse into this planet’s core. Weightless dust. All of us. All the same. No feeling. No more pain.

    It could happen tomorrow or ten thousand years from today and spark and inferno to ravage the land. Each voice, each joy, each soft child’s hand will be dust. All of us. All the same. No feeling. No more pain. It could happen tomorrow…or even today.

    Working backwards this morning, here is the second piece I read at the first Show N Tell, titled “Dream Desert”:

    I couldn’t marry him.

    While he was paying for gas, I hopped in the car and drove off into the desert toward the sun.

    Today’s sun was a solid orange ball with a black film draped over its center. It covered half the sky, and I could stare into it without burning my eyes.

    I had to turn around and tell everyone to look at the sun.

    Driving back to the gas station, I couldn’t help myself…I looked over my shoulder. I wanted to see the sun again.

    But it had changed.

    In less than five seconds, it had become a swirling, reddish orange vapor maliciously waiting to morph again.

    I stopped driving and stepped out of the car, my eyes unable to blink, staring at the sky.

    And then the sun impulsively poured itself onto the Earth.

    A firestorm rolled across the desert toward me, and in an instant, I was nothing.

    Daydreamer
    Disenchanted wanna-believer
    Introvert
    teach me. I don’t know how to flirt.
    Loyal friend
    kiss me. crawl into my head.

    Faith healer
    Soul singer
    Wanna live in Pandora’s Aquarium on Track 29?
    Got any gum before we go all nite?

    So…
    What are you all about?
    ‘Cause I just shared mine.
    Can I trust you a little more than some sometimes?

    So…
    Naive.
    Even at 33.
    You’re jaded.
    That’s why you can’t believe in someone like me being so naive at 33.

    I thought I knew unhappiness until I met you. Blurry, shady, dizzy, we did WHAT?
    (did we?)
    Beady eyes, always play the victim ’cause you’re ex-wife didn’t play nice. Your tongue’s all tied with lies and booze.
    How could you know my truth?

    I wanna be free.
    Don’t build your walls around me.
    I wanna be pure, simple honesty.
    Happy with what I have,
    not sitting in strangers’ laps setting jealousy traps.

    Had any good chiropractic adjustments lately? Well, that’s why, maybe…the old man at your brother’s birthday party asked if I was the nurse.

    Now, hold on Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,
    before you wake up all mean and sober,
    ready to curse the bitch who can’t lie while insecurely texting her to come over…
    She is done with you.
    I am done with you.
    WE are done with you and your group playtime friends.
    Yes,
    definitely, definitely,
    we are done with them.
    Funny how it never seems like things are gonna but they ALWAYS gotta end.

    Don’t be sad.
    I’ll always smile when I remember your favorite hymn: “Relax, honey. Just go with the flow. ‘Cause you never know who you’ll know or touch tomorrow.”
